West Texas has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against The Highland Park Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Two Fridays ago, everything came up roses for West Texas at home against Sanford-Fritch as the team secured a 40-7 win.
Meanwhile, Highland Park took a serious blow against Panhandle on Friday, falling 72-32. While losing is never fun, Highland Park can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 854th, while Panhandle is ranked 296th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Benjamin Ho, who picked up 163 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Ho was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 66 yards. Another player making a difference was Brady Thomspon, who threw for 278 yards and two touchdowns.
West Texas' win lifted them to 3-3 while Highland Park's loss dropped them down to 4-2.
West Texas ended up a good deal behind Highland Park in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, losing 31-16. Can West Texas avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
