North Nodaway is headed into Monday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 29th straight game dating back to last season on Thursday. They came up short against East Atchison [Tarkio/Fairfax], falling 18-0.
Meanwhile, Rock Port came tearing into Thursday's contest with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Wildcats 12-3. The result was nothing new for the Blue Jays, who have now won six games by nine runs or more so far this season.
Dylan Lair made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single hit and allowing only one earned run while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, Corbyn Jakub was incredible, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Tayden Cook, who went 2-for-5 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Rock Port kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in four consecutive matches.
Rock Port's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for North Nodaway, their loss dropped their record down to 0-9.
