Hammond has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Oakland Mills Scorpions at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Hammond's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three contests.
Hammond can now show off ten landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They breezed by Glenelg at home to the tune of 58-25. Given Hammond's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 21st, while the Gladiators are ranked 165th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hammond's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Sara Yarnell, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 17 rebounds, and Nia Green, who dropped a double-double on 29 points and ten rebounds. Green hasn't dropped below three steals for eight straight games. Delani Thomas was another key contributor, scoring four points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Oakland Mills was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Saturday as they fell 57-53 to the Knights.
Hammond's win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-0. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 31.4 points. As for Oakland Mills, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.
Hammond didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against the Scorpions in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 55-51 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hammond since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
