Great Falls is 8-2 against Russell since October of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Bison will look to defend their home field against the Rustlers at 7:00 p.m.
On Thursday, Great Falls came up short against Billings Senior and fell 31-19. The Bison gained 111 more yards on the day, but it was the Broncs that made the best use of them.
Bladen Madel put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 62 yards on only seven carries, and also caught one score.
Meanwhile, Russell waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by a 32-8 margin over the Falcons. The result was nothing new for the Rustlers, who have now won three games by 24 points or more so far this season.
Russell's win came from a few key players Great Falls will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Kane Mahlum, who rushed for 107 yards and one TD on only 15 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Taylor, who rushed for 75 yards.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Russell proved: they limited Skyview to a paltry -0.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Conner Sherman for the heroic effort on defense: he. Russell's run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 3.9 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 4.43 on average over their last three games.
Russell's defense didn't let Jaxon Zagata, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece.
Russell's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Great Falls, they dropped their record down to 2-5 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.
Everything went Great Falls' way against Russell in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as Great Falls made off with a 27-7 win. Do the Bison have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rustlers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
