Given Santa Fe Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 76th, while Escondido Charter is ranked 707th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
When it comes to explaining why Escondido Charter lost, one person who can't be blamed is Joe Scates. Despite the final result, he scored seven points along with 13 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Max Mowrey, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Santa Fe Christian is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. As for Escondido Charter, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-13 record this season.
