The Skyline Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a 54-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Green Canyon. While losing is never fun, Skyline can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while Green Canyon is ranked 29th).
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Leelu Bare, who scored 12 points along with 7 rebounds and 5 steals. Bare has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Cami Groberg, who scored 11 points along with 7 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Skyline were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Green Canyon only pulled down five.
Marissa Best continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Green Canyon, scoring 10 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 steals. Best hasn't dropped below two blocks for three straight games. Janalynn Blotter was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Skyline's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Green Canyon, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-1.
Skyline will head out on the road to face off against Spanish Fork at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Spanish Fork has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Green Canyon, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Snow Canyon at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Snow Canyon's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three contests.
