The Leake Academy Rebels have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten contests by 23 points or more this season. They took their match on the road on Saturday with ease, bagging a 60-26 win over Winston Academy. Given Leake Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while Winston Academy is ranked 183rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leake Academy can attribute much of their success to Marleigh Myers, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Jenna Allen, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Leake Academy's victory bumped their record up to 14-3. As for Winston Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-9.
Leake Academy is on the road again on Tuesday and play against Desoto County Academy at 3:30 p.m. on December 19th. Winston Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Oak Hill Academy at 6:30 p.m. on January 18, 2024.
