Olyvia Piranio spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Maddyn Saunders was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.
Meanwhile, Whitewater won against East Troy on Tuesday with 13 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Whippets beat the Trojans by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 13-3. The Whippets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Sydney Schilt made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Falyn Krahn and Paige Kollwelter did most of the damage at the plate: Krahn went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double, while Kollwelter went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most hits Kollwelter has posted since back in April. Jennifer Gosh was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Whitewater kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Turner's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.9 runs over those games. As for Whitewater, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.
Whitewater's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Turner has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Whitewater, though, as they've been averaging only 3.4 strikeouts. Will Turner keep running through batters, or will the Whippets buck the trend?
Turner couldn't quite finish off Whitewater when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
