The West Pioneers pushed their score all the way to 56 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of South by a score of 58-56. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for West in their matchups with South: they've now lost three in a row.
West lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Rob Basks Jr, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Basks Jr has scored all season. Gavyn Phillips was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with nine rebounds.
West has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. As for South, their victory bumped their record up to 6-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West will take on North at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. North comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for South, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Kapaun Mt. Carmel at 7:15 p.m. Kapaun Mt. Carmel knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 13 matches -- so hopefully South likes a good challenge.
