The Irmo Yellowjackets will face off against the South Florence Bruins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Irmo sitting on 13 straight victories and South Florence on 28 (dating back to last season).
Irmo had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat James Island 34-7 on the road. Irmo might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won 12 contests by 27 points or more this season.
Irmo can attribute much of their success to Jaden Allen-hendrix, who rushed for 180 yards and a touchdown, and Aaron (AJ) Brand Jr., who rushed for 131 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries. Allen-hendrix has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last 11 times he's played.
Meanwhile, South Florence stacked a 11th blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They blew past Lancaster 42-22. Given South Florence's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked sixth, while Lancaster is ranked 45th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Irmo's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-0. As for South Florence, their win bumped their record up to an identical 13-0.
Irmo took a serious blow against South Florence in their previous meeting back in September of 2021, falling 63-28. Can Irmo avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
