The William Floyd Colonials waltzed into their matchup Saturday with four straight wins but they left with five. They walked away with a 45-38 win over Walt Whitman. The score was all tied up 17-17 at the break, but William Floyd was the better team in the second half.
William Floyd got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Shy Hawkins out in front who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Gilmore, who scored nine points along with three steals.
William Floyd pushed their record up to 9-1 with that victory, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Walt Whitman, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-2.
William Floyd will head out on the road to face off against Patchogue-Medford at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Walt Whitman, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Brentwood at 6:45 p.m.
