The Linton-Stockton Miners will face off against the Clay City Eels at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Linton-Stockton 4.1, Clay City 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Linton-Stockton's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Saturday's struggle, when Riverton Parke hitters got past them. The Miners came up short against the Panthers on Saturday, falling 12-2. The Miners have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Clay City). They never let Dugger Union get on the board and left with a 26-0 win on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Eels in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won five in a row.
Caroline Rexrode and Lizzy Sinders made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Rexrode tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Sinders pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Rexrode got on base in five of her six plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Sinders went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs Rexrode has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Abigale Shearer and Karlee Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Shearer got on base in all six of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Smith went a perfect 5-for-5 with five runs, two RBI, and one double. Those five hits gave Smith a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ellie Stoelting, who got on base in three of her six plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.
Clay City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .717. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
