The Sharpsville Blue Devils are taking a road trip to square off against the Saegertown Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Sharpsville took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Cathedral Prep a 17-0 shutout. The Blue Devils not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 14, 2025 (when they won 19-1).
Maddison Sump was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Sump was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those runs marked the first that she has scored this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emma Brest, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2025. Ali Candiotti also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Saegertown won against Cochranton on Tuesday with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Panthers were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over Meadville. Considering the Panthers have won four games by more than eight runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Sharpsville, Saegertown also got a great game from a two-way player: Hailey Obenrader. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 14 over six innings pitched. Obenrader has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Mila Miller was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Tori Obenrader was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Saegertown's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Sharpsville, the victory was their first at home, bumping their record up to 2-5.
Sharpsville was able to grind out a solid win over Saegertown in their previous matchup back in March of 2016, winning 6-3. Do the Blue Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
