It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders had no problem doing just that on Friday. It was another big night for Jordan Lyle, who rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries. Lyle really tore up the turf during one magnificent 95-yard run. Justin Montgomery was another key contributor, gaining 76 total yards and a touchdown.
Another reason for the win was St. Thomas Aquinas' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for 12 sacks. It was a group effort, with three picking up two apiece.
St. Thomas Aquinas' win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-1. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 39.67 points. As for Blanche Ely, their loss dropped their record down to 9-3.
St. Thomas Aquinas will play host again and welcome Coconut Creek, where kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
