The Wheatland-Chili Wildcats will head out on the road to take on the Alexander Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wheatland-Chili has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last five games.
Wheatland-Chili scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They slipped by Northstar Christian Academy 79-78. Given Wheatland-Chili's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 123rd, while Northstar Christian Academy is ranked 694th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jaden Schwenebraten and Leighton Williams were among the main playmakers for Wheatland-Chili as the former scored 29 points and the latter scored 39 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Williams has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Alexander had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They came out on top against Notre Dame by a score of 62-54.
Wheatland-Chili has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season. As for Alexander, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.
Wheatland-Chili didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Alexander in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 66-62 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wheatland-Chili since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
