Baseball Recap: St. Edward's Has No Trouble Against Westwood

The home team had won the previous four meetings between St. Edward and Westwood, and St. Edward's kept the tradition alive. The St. Edward's Pirates were the clear victor by a 9-3 margin over the Westwood Panthers on Thursday. Considering the Pirates have won four matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Caden Freedman made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cooper Harp, who scored four runs and stole Three bases. while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Nolan Ange, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-2.

St. Edward's pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Westwood, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Edward's will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Master's Academy at 6:00 p.m. on March 20th. As for Westwood, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Westwood Panthers challenge Port St. Lucie Jaguars at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
