Jennings County hasn't had much luck against New Palestine recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Panthers will be playing at home against the Dragons at 10:00 a.m. Jennings County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Jennings County will bounce into Saturday's contest after beating Bedford North Lawrence, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Panthers walked away with a 7-3 win over the Stars on Thursday.
Arian Day made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double.
Day wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Maycie Ward, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, New Palestine waltzed into their game on Thursday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They came out on top against the Cougars by a score of 6-2.
Sadey Hughbanks spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, New Palestine let Jersi Gross and Katie Hirschy run wild. Gross went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI, while Hirschy went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Maddie Engle, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
New Palestine kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greenfield-Central only managed five hits.
Jennings County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for New Palestine, they pushed their record up to 16-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Jennings County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .339. However, it's not like New Palestine struggles in that department as they've averaged .324. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Jennings County might still be hurting after the 15-0 defeat they got from New Palestine in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
