There's no place like home for the Orangeburg-Wilkinson Bruins, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 42-40 victory over Brookland-Cayce on Thursday. Given Orangeburg-Wilkinson's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 45th, while Brookland-Cayce is ranked 133rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Orangeburg-Wilkinson had a senior duo take command as Ladontis Franklin scored 11 points along with three steals and Maurion Gordon scored eight points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Jason Booker, who scored six points.
Orangeburg-Wilkinson is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season. As for Brookland-Cayce, their loss dropped their record down to 12-12.
Orangeburg-Wilkinson does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Brookland-Cayce, they will head out on the road to face off against Crestwood at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Crestwood will roll in looking for their 14th straight victory, something Brookland-Cayce surely won't give up without a fight.
