Serra Catholic and Jeannette are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Serra Catholic Eagles will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Jeannette Jayhawks at 7:30 p.m. on December 15th. Hopefully Serra Catholic focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six on Tuesday.
Serra Catholic pushed their score all the way to 59, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 71-59 to Ellwood City. Serra Catholic found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and rack up 16 fewer assists than your opponent.
Serra Catholic's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Pete Burke, who scored 24 points along with seven rebounds and six steals, and Owen Dumbroski who scored 20 points along with six assists and five rebounds. The contest was Dumbroski's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Tyler Sapida, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Jeannette didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Steel Valley on Wednesday, but they still walked away with a 46-41 win.
Jeannette found their leader in underclassman Markus McGowan, who scored 19 points. McGowan continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Kymone Brown was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Serra Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Jeannette, they pushed their record up to 4-2 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Serra Catholic skirted past Jeannette 48-45 in their previous meeting back in January. Does Serra Catholic have another victory up their sleeve, or will Jeannette turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
