The St. Francis Red Raiders can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. They snuck past St. Mary's with a 67-63 win. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Jeremiah Neely continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 14 rebounds. The contest was his fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Leyton Roberts, who scored 18 points.
St. Mary's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Griffin Smith, who scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Smith scored a full 34.9% of St. Mary's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Will Szablewski, who scored 21 points along with nine rebounds.
St. Francis' win bumped their record up to 4-5. As for St. Mary's, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Francis will face off against Bishop Ludden at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Bishop Ludden's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matches. St. Mary's will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Bishop Grimes at 1:00 p.m. on January 6th.
