The Lincoln Northeast Rockets pushed their score all the way to 64 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 71-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lincoln East. Lincoln Northeast has struggled against Lincoln East recently, as their game on Friday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Lincoln Northeast had strong showings from Grant Fredericks, who scored 16 points along with two steals, and Mowafag A abdalla, who scored 15 points. That's the first time this season that Fredericks grabbed two or more steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyan Lenhoff, who scored eight points.
Lincoln East had a senior duo take command as Quin Weatherholt scored 29 points along with nine rebounds and Carter Mick dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Weatherholt pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Connor Johnson, who scored six points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Lincoln Northeast bumped their record down to 7-6 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Lincoln East, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-6.
Lincoln Northeast won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Lincoln North Star at 6:45 p.m. on January 20th. Lincoln North Star knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five games -- so hopefully Lincoln Northeast likes a good challenge. As for Lincoln East, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lincoln Southeast at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Lincoln Southeast focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten last Thursday.
