It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Sweet Home ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Grand Island Vikings 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Panthers have posted against the Vikings since May 13, 2016.

The team relied heavily on Aiden Mroz, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Tom Caruana, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Sweet Home hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.

With the victory, Sweet Home broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-6-1. As for Grand Island, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.

Looking ahead, Sweet Home will face off against Maryvale at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Flyers will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Panthers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Grand Island, they will welcome Niagara Falls at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Vikings' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wolverines have averaged an impressive 11 runs per game this season.
