Basketball Recap: Cary Academy's Winning Streak Snapped at Five Games

It was a good run, but Cary Academy unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 66-54 to the Durham Academy Cavaliers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Chargers of the 70-55 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

Despite the loss, Cary Academy had strong showings from Julian Tweedy, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds, and Aidan Rousseau, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 boards. Tweedy's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Champ Lando, who posted 11 points.

JJ Wilcox continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Durham Academy, going 12 for 16 on his way to 26 points along with five boards and three steals. The dominant performance gave Wilcox a new career-high in points. PJ Jeffries was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 13 rebounds.

Cary Academy's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-8. As for Durham Academy, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-5.

Cary Academy will look to defend their home court on Friday against Ravenscroft at 7:00 p.m. Cary Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.5 points per game this season. As for Durham Academy, they will head out on the road to challenge North Raleigh Christian Academy at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Durham Academy also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 71.2 points per game.
