4A Piedmont Triad recap Oct. 16, 2012
East Forsyth extended the longest winning streak in 4A Piedmont Triad this week by beating Southwest Guilford, 69-13. This was the team's ninth consecutive win.
Parkland moved up to 261 from 288 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Mustangs were able to make the jump by losing to Northwest Guilford 28-7.
High Point Central's dynamic duo of Justin Johnson and Jawan Foggie proved tough for Glenn to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Johnson threw for 210 yards and one touchdown and Foggie had 80 yards receiving. Jameel Mack helped High Point Central's passing attack out by catching two balls for 50 yards.
Reid Baxter was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 15 carries, he ran for 146 yards as the Vikings defeated the Bobcats. Teammate Kamen Powell added to the ground attack by rushing for 88 yards.
High Point Central's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Bison feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Johnson has thrown for 1741 yards and 12 touchdowns this season, while Foggie has 50 catches for 671 yards. Johnson also leads the league in rushing with 882 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place East Forsyth takes on second place Northwest Guilford. Last week, East Forsyth topped the Cowboys, while Northwest Guilford beat Parkland.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Todd Willert's team takes on Joe Woodruff's team. The Eagles have allowed 59 points this season, while the Vikings have given up 99. East Forsyth allowed 13 points last week as it topped Southwest Guilford.
There should be lots of points scored when the Eagles and Northwest Guilford face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, East Forsyth comes in having scored 389 this season, while the Vikings have scored 264. The Eagles scored 69 points last week as they bested Scott Schwarzer's team.
Deangelo Bell's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,761 from 9,791. The advance stemmed from a 28-7 victory over the Mustangs last week.
