Trenton Central is 1-7 against Ewing since January of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Trenton Central Tornadoes on the road again and play against the Ewing Blue Devils at 5:30 p.m. on January 18th. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Monday, Trenton Central was able to grind out a solid win over East Side, taking the game 56-43.
Meanwhile, Ewing had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They snuck past Paul VI with a 61-56 win. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Ewing's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Rhian Stokes, who scored 21 points along with eight assists and eight rebounds. Stokes is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Joi Johnson, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and five blocks.
Trenton Central's win bumped their record up to 5-8. As for Ewing, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-3.
Trenton Central was taken down by Ewing 58-30 when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Can Trenton Central avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
