The Doral Academy Red Rock Dragons will challenge the Basic Wolves at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Doral Academy Red Rock is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last ten games.
Basic's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Wednesday: Doral Academy Red Rock hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Dragons never let Sierra Vista get on the board and left with a 5-0 win on Monday.
Sierra Vista's batters probably weren't too happy with Megan Upp, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 14 Ks (she gave up a single walk). Upp has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Gabriella Rodriguez was incredible, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Desarae Castaneda, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Basic's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Liberty on Monday. The Wolves were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over Eldorado.
Melanie Hughes made a splash while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Basic got a massive performance out of Natalee Ramos, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The dominant performance also gave Ramos a new career-high in RBI (two). Isabella Christensen was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Basic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in ten consecutive contests.
Doral Academy Red Rock pushed their record up to 21-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Basic, their victory bumped their record up to 12-10.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Doral Academy Red Rock hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .347. However, it's not like Basic struggles in that department as they've averaged .374. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Doral Academy Red Rock's way against Basic in their previous meeting on April 11th, as Doral Academy Red Rock made off with a 10-3 win. Do the Dragons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wolves turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
