PHILLIPSBURG, Kan. -
Phillipsburg (Kan.) received a huge boost from its defense against Minneapolis (Kan.), as the unit scored 12 in defeating Minneapolis (Kan.), 56-7.
The lead that the Panthers took on a
Sean Newlan touchdown pass to
Seth Derr with 6:00 remaining in the first quarter stood up for the duration of the game, as neither team managed to score in the second half.
Newlan played well for Phillipsburg in the victory. The senior quarterback threw two touchdowns and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored five touchdowns on the season.
The Lions' lone touchdown came on a run in the first quarter.
PHS had given up an average of 9.7 points prior to the contest.
The win was a nice bounce back for the Panthers, which lost to Beloit last week, 32-27.
Phillipsburg (7-1) goes up against Norton in a Mid-Continent game matchup next week, while Minneapolis (3-5) locks horns with Beloit in a North Central AA game.
