Softball Recap: Spanish River Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Spanish River, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Seminole Ridge Hawks with a sharp 8-1 win on Thursday. For the Sharks, this counts as revenge for the 1-0 victory the Hawks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Giselle Portanova made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off eight hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-4. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adrianna Boucher, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kat Arencibia, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Spanish River kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Spanish River is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. Seminole Ridge's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.

Spanish River will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Pompano Beach at 6:30 p.m. on April 1st. Spanish River's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Pompano Beach's hitters will have their work cut out for them. Seminole Ridge also won't see the field for a while: their next game is against Oxbridge Academy at 4:30 p.m. on April 2nd. Oxbridge Academy will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Seminole Ridge surely won't give up without a fight.
