LIGONIER, Pa. - After taking the lead in the fourth quarter,
Penns Manor (Clymer, Pa.) held on for a 31-29 victory over
Ligonier Valley (Ligonier, Pa.) on Saturday. The difference for the Comets was that
Lucas Kowalski threw a touchdown to
Nathan Dumm.
The Comets led 12-0 at halftime, but the Rams regained the lead on a Kowalski touchdown pass to Dumm with under a minute left in the fourth.
Both teams scored seven points in the third quarter, so the margin remained at 12 at the start of the fourth.
The loss snapped Ligonier Valley's six-game winning streak.
Ligonier Valley came in surrendering 12.0 points per game this season. LV had a hard time against Penns Manor's offense, which entered the game scoring 35.7 points per game.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 20-11 win for PM.
The defeat comes as a step back for Ligonier Valley, which notched a 50-14 victory over Saltsburg in its previous outing.
Ligonier Valley (6-1) goes up against Homer-Center in a Heritage game matchup next week, while Penns Manor (7-0) locks horns with Purchase Line also in a Heritage game.
