Basketball Recap: De Beque Victorious

After losing to Plateau Valley the last time they met, De Beque decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The De Beque Dragons pulled ahead with a 49-48 photo finish over the Plateau Valley Cowboys on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Dragons.

De Beque's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Avery Rigsby, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Rigsby a new career-high in assists (seven). Allyson Sandidge was another key player, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 11 boards.

De Beque smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matches.

Despite the loss, Plateau Valley still got an impressive performance from Emaline Ealey, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds. Ealey has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 13 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Macy Bevan, who posted nine points in addition to seven rebounds and three blocks.

De Beque has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.0 points per game. As for Plateau Valley, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-2.

De Beque will venture away from home to take on Vail Mountain at 5:30 p.m. on January 17th. De Beque is facing Vail Mountain at the right time seeing as Vail Mountain is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Plateau Valley, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 61-25 win against Hayden on the 11th.
