It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Gretna Hawks had no problem doing just that on Friday. In a tight game that could have gone either way, they made off with a 28-27 victory over Floyd County. The win was familiar territory for Gretna who now have five in a row.
Gretna had a senior duo take command as Amare Gunn gained 89 total yards and two touchdowns and Melvin Wooden rushed for 41 yards and a touchdown.
Floyd County's loss came despite strong showings from Sam Phillips and Phillip Radford. Phillips threw for 209 yards and three touchdowns, while Radford picked up 100 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Gretna's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2. As for Floyd County, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.
Gretna will be playing at home against Glenvar at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Glenvar's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last four matches. Floyd County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
