The DeKalb Barons are taking a road trip to face off against the Goshen RedHawks at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. DeKalb is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, DeKalb beat East Noble 7-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Barons.
Malachi Webb and Brady Vince did most of the damage at the plate: Webb went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs, while Vince went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Schackow, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Goshen). They were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over Wawasee on Friday. The RedHawks haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Braxton Cline was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jensen Meikle, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Goshen always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wawasee only posted an OBP of .211.
DeKalb's record is now 11-2. As for Goshen, their record now sits at 9-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. DeKalb has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Goshen struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
DeKalb couldn't quite finish off Goshen in their previous matchup back in April of 2016 and fell 12-10. Can the Barons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
