Wapakoneta has gone 9-1 against Elida recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Redskins will head out to take on the Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. Wapakoneta is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Wapakoneta was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Kenton on Friday. The Redskins' pitcher stepped up to hand the Wildcats a 13-0 shutout. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Redskins considering their one-run performance the game before.
Drew Bailey made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Griffin Mericle was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Grant Jolly was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs.
Meanwhile, Elida fell victim to Defiance and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They came up short against Defiance, falling 10-0. The loss continues a trend for Elida in their meetings with Defiance: they've now lost five in a row.
Wapakoneta pushed their record up to 12-1 with the win, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Elida, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-8.
Elida's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Wapakoneta has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .509. It's a different story for Elida, though, as they've only averaged .365. Will they be able to contain Wapakoneta's hitters?
Wapakoneta skirted past Elida 3-1 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Redskins since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
