The Eastern Greene Thunderbirds will be playing in front of their home fans against the Providence Pioneers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Thursday, Eastern Greene humbled North Central with a 43-6 victory. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 21-0.
James Lewis went supernova for Eastern Greene, rushing for 226 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.6 yards per carry. Another player making a difference was Jonas Hawk, who rushed for 47 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Providence put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their undefeated season alive. They blew past North Harrison 35-0 at home. Providence's offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
Providence's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cade Unruh, who rushed for 90 yards. Unruh's longest rush was for an incredible 90 yards. Preston Kempf also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.
Eastern Greene now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Providence, their win was their sixth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 9-0.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Eastern Greene has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 208.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Providence struggles in that department as they've been even better at 209.9 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
