Jayden Magill made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 14 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Those 14 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kris Aguirre, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Stenson, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Florence was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Valley Christian entered their tilt with Crismon on Thursday with 11 consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 12. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Rattlers. Considering the Trojans have won 15 matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Parker Spade was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two doubles. Nate Danzeisen was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Florence's record now sits at 19-7. As for Valley Christian, their record is now 18-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Florence has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Valley Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Florence suffered a grim 13-2 defeat to Valley Christian in their previous meeting on April 2nd. Can the Gophers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
