The Avon Falcons will be playing at home against the South Windsor Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
While it was all tied up 6-6 at halftime, Avon was not quite Rocky Hill's equal in the second half on Friday. Avon's rough 28-6 loss to Rocky Hill might stick with them for a while.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, South Windsor's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of Platt by a score of 21-19. South Windsor gained 117 more yards on the day, but it was Platt that made the best of use of them.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Mitch Chaves, who rushed for 15 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 228 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Joey Bemis, who picked up 143 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Avon's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 2-5. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 15.7 points per game. As for South Windsor, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's game: Avon has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 259.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like South Windsor struggles in that department as they've been averaging 189.9 per game. It's looking like Thursday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
