The Winter Park Wildcats will take on the Timber Creek Wolves in a tournament on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Winter Park 2, Timber Creek 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Winter Park had been on a four-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but Spruce Creek put an end to it on Thursday. The Wildcats fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 2-1. The matchup marked the Wildcats' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Brendan Carbery was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Winter Park saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trey Hodges, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Timber Creek never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by an 8-0 margin over Cypress Creek. Considering the Wolves have won four contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
The result came thanks to Jenuel Velazquez's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up six Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Timber Creek is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-3 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Carlos Santos was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Ethan Torres, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Timber Creek is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Winter Park, they moved to 8-3 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Winter Park has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Timber Creek struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Winter Park couldn't quite finish off Timber Creek in their previous meeting back in April of 2025 and fell 6-4. Will the Wildcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
