The Choctaw Yellowjackets won the last time they faced the Lawton Wolverines, and things went their way on Friday too. Choctaw took their matchup on the road with ease, bagging a 58-6 victory over Lawton. Given Choctaw's advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma football rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while Lawton is ranked 160th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Choctaw was led to victory by Mayor Morgan and Cash Williams. Morgan rushed for 90 yards and two touchdowns, while Williams threw for 283 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72.2% of his passes. Deshawn Smith was in the mix as well, providing Choctaw with two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Lawton to a paltry 92 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Choctaw's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out four times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Will Smith and his two sacks.
The victory makes it two in a row for Choctaw and bumps their season record up to 5-1. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 65 points. As for Lawton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Choctaw will take on Putnam City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Putnam City is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Lawton, they will be playing at home against Putnam City North at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
