Basketball Recap: Ida Baker's Winning Streak Snapped at Seven Games

It was a good run, but Ida Baker unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell 48-37 to the Lemon Bay Manta Rays. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 441st, while the Manta Rays are ranked 167th).

Ida Baker's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maia Berdebes, who posted 13 points and six boards. That was a full 35.1% of Ida Baker's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabela Beauchamp, who scored eight points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Ida Baker smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive contests.

Lemon Bay's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Maya Collins, who put up 14 points in addition to six assists and six boards. Collins has been hot recently, having also posted four or more steals the last three times she's played. Mackenzie Long was another key player, putting up 20 points and five rebounds.

Ida Baker's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-14. As for Lemon Bay, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ida Baker will take on Gulf Coast at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gulf Coast's defense has only allowed 27.3 points per game this season, so Ida Baker's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Lemon Bay, they will face off against Island Coast at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Lemon Bay is facing Island Coast at the right time seeing as Island Coast is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
