The New Haven Rockets will venture away from home to take on the Lake Shore Shorians at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. New Haven has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with six straight defeats, while Lake Shore will come in with three straight victories.
Port Huron hit New Haven with a eight-run first inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Rockets came up short against the Red Hawks, falling 12-1.
Gabrielle (Gabby) Goetz Class 2025 was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.
Meanwhile, Lake Shore made easy work of Warren Woods-Tower on Wednesday and carried off a 15-1 win. The Shorians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by 11 runs or more this season.
Sophia VanDenstorm was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Makayla Blumenschein was a standout: she fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Kendra Damm was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one home run and five RBI.
Lake Shore kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Warren Woods-Tower only managed three hits.
Lake Shore pushed their record up to 9-4 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for New Haven, their loss dropped their record down to 1-9.
New Haven suffered a grim 22-3 defeat to Lake Shore in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Rockets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
