Even though the Wharton Tigers have not done well against the Navasota Rattlers recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Wharton walked away with a 59-50 victory over Navasota. The victory was familiar territory for Wharton who now have three in a row.
Angell Gaona, Jr. continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 28 points and 17 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Jacoryan Dickerson was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with 11 rebounds and three blocks.
Wharton has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 11-15 record this season. As for Navasota, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-10.
Wharton will be playing at home against Needville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Needville presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Wharton in Texas (Needville is ranked 333rd, while Wharton is ranked 903rd). As for Navasota, they will head out on the road to square off against El Campo at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. El Campo knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Navasota likes a good challenge.
