Lanesville has gone 7-1 against Eastern recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Musketeers at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Lanesville is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 21-6 margin over Scottsburg on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Eagles considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Madelyn Magner was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Cheyenne Gunn, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI and two runs.
Lanesville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .707. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Eastern was able to grind out a solid win over Madison on Thursday, taking the game 7-4.
Bracie Jackson made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Jackson wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Bailey Trainor, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave Trainor a new career-high. Alyssa Calloway was another, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Eastern has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lanesville, their record now sits at 6-12.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lanesville has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Eastern struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Lanesville came out on top in a nail-biter against Eastern in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, sneaking past 7-5. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Musketeers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
