Sawyer Brinkman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jaydon Stroup, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Liam Leffert, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base.
Golden hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pueblo Central struck out eight times.
Meanwhile, Thomas Jefferson had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They blew past Montbello 9-3 on Tuesday. The Spartans not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 1, 2024.
David Villarreal made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Villarreal was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Jesus Flores-Sanchez was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 4-for-5. Noah Klein was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Golden has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Thomas Jefferson, the win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-7.
Thomas Jefferson's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Golden hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. It's a different story for Thomas Jefferson, though, as they've only averaged .229. Will they be able to contain Golden's hitters?
Golden took their victory against Thomas Jefferson in their previous matchup back in March of 2022 by a conclusive 13-1 score. Do the Demons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
