If the Smidt Tech Grey Wolves were riding high off their 65-29 takedown of the Alliance Health Services Academy Wolves last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Smidt Tech was outmatched by Sotomayor on the road and fell 68-32. Smidt Tech was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 46-16.
Smidt Tech's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Leo Pena, who scored 16 points, and Aaron Merlos who scored 15 points. Merlos scored a full 46.9% of Smidt Tech's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Sotomayor's win on Monday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Bryan Hernandez, who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 12 steals. Hernandez is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrian Camacho, who scored 9 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 steals.
Smidt Tech bumped their record down to 1-4 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Sotomayor, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Smidt Tech will head out on the road to face off against Alliance Marine-Innovation & Technology at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Alliance Marine-Innovation & Technology is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. Sotomayor will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on St. Joseph Academy at 7:00 p.m. on December 8th. Hopefully St. Joseph Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Friday.
