The Martin County Tigers will square off against the Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Martin County took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They put the hurt on South Fork with a sharp 13-5 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Tigers considering their two-run performance the game before.
Brealyn White was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. White was even better at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That home run was her first of the season.

Meanwhile, Cardinal Gibbons faced Park Vista in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Chiefs blew past the Cobras 8-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Chiefs.
Lydia Berent made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 17 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elena Elash, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI.
Cardinal Gibbons' victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Martin County, their victory bumped their record up to 10-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Martin County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cardinal Gibbons struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
