Basketball Recap: Marionville Skates Past Hurley with Ease

There's no place like home for Marionville, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 54-25 victory over the Hurley Tigers. That's more bragging rights for the Comets, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Leading Marionville to victory were Lanie Stokes and Anna Bright. Stokes went 8 of 15 en route to 19 points along with eight boards and three steals, while Bright went 5 of 11 on her way to 12 points and three steals. The match was Stokes' third in a row with at least ten points. Dally Pomeroy was another key player, putting up nine points along with seven boards and six steals.

Marionville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Marionville has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.8 points per game. As for Hurley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Marionville and Bolivar will shake off the cobwebs and take on one another at 5:00 p.m. on January 6, 2025. Hurley will take on Pleasant Hope in a holiday battle at at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
