The Havelock Rams were the 45-25 winner over the West Craven Eagles when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Havelock took a hard 59-41 fall against West Craven on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Havelock can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 317th, while West Craven is ranked 45th).
When it comes to explaining why Havelock lost, one person who can't be blamed is Adaija Cypress. Despite the final result, she scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of O'Lora Krupey, who scored 7 points along with 5 rebounds.
West Craven's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Torvonyah Heggie, who scored 21 points along with 9 rebounds. Shalawn Yates was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with 5 rebounds and 4 steals.
Havelock's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for West Craven, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
Havelock will head out on the road to face off against West Carteret at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully West Carteret focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 33 on Tuesday. As for West Craven, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against New Bern at 5:00 p.m.
