The GV Christian Guardians's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They were beaten by Needles 63-30. While losing is never fun, GV Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 88th in Nevada, while Needles is ranked 17th in California).
GV Christian lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Cade Johnson, who scored 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Terrance Turner, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Needles' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Xavier Russell, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. Russell is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Holden Jones was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
GV Christian has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. As for Needles, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 18-0.
GV Christian will head out on the road to square off against Adelson at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Adelson is on a four-game streak of home losses, GV Christian a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. Needles will take on Parker at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Parker is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
