The Sierra Grande Panthers suffered their closest  defeat yet this season on Saturday. They fell just short of Trinidad by a score of  32-29. Sierra Grande was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Trinidad apparently hadn't forgotten their  loss the last time these teams played  back in December of 2022.
 Sierra Grande's loss  came despite strong showings from  Jaylyn Quezada and  Alexandra Garcia.  Quezada  scored 11 points along with nine  steals, while  Garcia  scored seven points along with three  steals. Quezada is on a roll when it comes to  steals, as she's  now  grabbed two or more in the last five games she's  played.
 Leading Trinidad to victory were  Monserrad Viera Flores and  Danica Shipley.  Viera Flores  dropped  a double-double on ten points and ten  steals, while  Shipley  scored 17 points along with two  steals. That's the first time this season that  Shipley  scored 15 or more  points.
 This is  the second loss in a row for Sierra Grande and  nudges their season record down to 2-8. As for Trinidad, they are  on a roll lately: they've  won six of their last seven games,  which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.
 Sierra Grande will head out on the road to  challenge  Walsenburg at 5:00  p.m.  on Tuesday. Walsenburg comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last seven games, a trend the  squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Trinidad, they will look to defend their home court  on Monday against Dolores Huerta Prep at 6:00  p.m.
