Newport is 0-10 against Freeman since April of 2018 but things could change on Wednesday. The Grizzlies will take on the Scotties at 4:00 p.m. One thing working in Newport's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last 12 games.
On Friday, Newport made easy work of Chewelah and carried off a 23-12 win. The Grizzlies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by nine runs or more this season.
Lili Hall was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Bella Boyd was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double. She has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last nine times she's played. Cheyanne Frisk was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.
Newport kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in 12 consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Freeman fell victim to Liberty and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lancers. The Scotties have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Freeman saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isabel Silva, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.
Newport's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.1 runs over those games. As for Freeman, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 11-1 and their overall record down to 18-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Newport hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Freeman struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Newport suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Freeman when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Grizzlies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
